About this Programme
This programme teaches law from a diverse range of perspectives, combining the finest traditions of legal education with recent innovations for the 21st century. The approach extends beyond basic legal rules and institutions, considering wider contexts and discourses for a deeper understanding of law in society. The University of Suffolk provides students with a firm grounding in law and the environments in which it functions. This course emphasizes using law to solve problems, encouraging the development of strong legal and problem-solving skills, and analyzing law's societal impact. Students will develop skills in a wide range of legal research methods, with increasing emphasis on independent work, preparing them for further study or a variety of legal careers. The programme also prioritizes practical legal skills for employability, integrating skills-based learning across all modules.
What You'll Learn
Extensive knowledge and understanding of a full range of foundational and specialist areas of law.
Knowledge and understanding of socio-legal concepts, values, and principles within various legal contexts, both nationally and internationally.
Critical evaluation of different interpretations of the law and the relationship between law and other concepts such such as political ideology and social problems.
Sophisticated knowledge and application of legal research theories, methodologies, and methods as part of an independent project.
Critical evaluation of a range of primary and secondary sources, identifying limitations and weaknesses of particular sources.
Discussion of the law from different perspectives such as moral, social economic, and political.
Intellectual independence through the design and development of an independent project drawing on a range of different sources, data, and/or first-hand experiences.
Critical evaluation of ambiguity, uncertainty, gaps, and growth points in the law.
Management of own learning, including through independent research and learning.
Analysis and distillation of material from a range of appropriate sources to inform judgments and reach accurate conclusions.
Presentation of complex legal information clearly both orally and in writing, including responding to questions and instructions taking into account the needs of the audience.
Articulation of complex legal points and arguments based on credible evidence using appropriate language and legal terminology.
Mastery of relevant professional legal skills.
